Are you using the Override Node Options module? If so, see this post: http://drupal.org/node/1090164

The jist of it is a module weight conflict between ONO and DPA where they are trying to alter the Date field at the same time and bump heads. Until this is solved programmatically (which it may not be), your best bet is to go into your database and look inside the "system" table. Look for the row where Override Node Options is and change the value in the "weight" column to -1 or something so that it loads before DPA. This avoids the conflict.
