Strange rectangle when creating superfish vertical menu on left or right sidebar region

First I want to thank the developer for a terrific theme.

For the life of me I cannot figure out this issue.

When I create a vertical superfish menu on the right or left sidebar region , a strange rectangle is created just above the menu. It is not an image and cannot figure out how to remove it.
