As described on the module page, custom search includes a Internationalization submodule which allows to limit search content to current language only. How can I apply this behaviour?

I found this snipped but using it in a custom module I get an Recoverable fatal error.

If you go to your Custom Search block settings, you'll see a "Languages" section there, with all the settings required to limit results by language.
