This idea isn't Drupal 8 specific! It'd be great to have a Drupal 7 version of this module. :-)

There is no way I have the energy to deal with the community's pushback. Also, I think I forgot how to write D7 code.

Heh, understood. :-) This is something I'd love to contribute, but I'm not sure when I'd have the time. But if it existed, I'd be happy to add it as a dependency for some of my D7 modules! I don't have enough D8 modules at this point to make a difference, unfortunately

I would hold-off because I am trying to get something like the Contribute module in D8 core. Please read my blog post.
