Considering this module has over 50k installs for 3.x at this point, I'm not sure if "Not ready for use on production sites yet. " still applies?

Which issues would need to be solved in order to tag a beta release? Or another alpha release?

Right.
I'm reviewing the issue queue to review patches of issues with major/critical status; when those are committed I'ill release a beta and update the info.

Great, thanks! You reckon the beta module can mostly supersede field_conditional_state (which is minimally maintained and not nearly as widely used as this module).
