6.x-1.0-beta4 is not saving the node I have to roll the module back to 6.x-1.0-beta3. How can I help in finding the problem?

Check out these issues if you use the code if (!$node->nid) node_save($node); in your computed field:

Sounds like you were using $node->nid which should be ok in beta5 after reverting via #414088: Computed fields should compute on $op='presave' and/or $op='validate'
