"Commons Groups: Group contributor count and topics" Not hidden on other themes

I wanted to use my own custom theme with drupal commons and it throws a lot of things in mayhem.

I realised the text "Commons Groups: Group contributor count and topics " showing up on the /groups page under the title of each group which by default is hidden when you are on the commons origin theme but shows up on other themes

Secondly i couldnt find any concrete documentation on theming. The documentation just takes you to the aquia site and really no mention about the architecture on theming.

Any Advice
