When a group is created there is no way to make it published, i.e. no 'Publish' sidebar exists to allow the creator to set the group to publish mode. Only the administrator can go into the group under content and force it to be published. Am I missing something here?

rosemeria CreditAttribution: rosemeria as a volunteer commentedThe default Group publishing for Drupal Commons is set to not publish, but you can have an administrator easily change this default.
Go to Structure >> Content Types >> select Group edit link
1) Find "publishing options
2) under default options, mark "Published"
3) save content type
Now Groups will publish to your Commons site when created by users with create content type group permissions.
