Upgrading breaks licenses.

I have attempted to upgrade commerce file from 7.x-2.0-alpha3+2-dev to 7.x-2.x-dev and 7.x-2.0-beta3 but in both instances I start getting this error when viewing my existing licenses.

CommerceLicenseException: Attempted to instantiate a broken license type plugin in CommerceLicenseBroken->__construct() (line 384 of ……/sites/all/modules/commerce_license/includes/plugins/type/base.inc).

It seems that the newer commerce file license is not backwards compatible with the older one. How am I meant to upgrade the module?
