jlea9378 commentedI did some simple debugging using dprint_r and print statements and I've confirmed that the correct values are being passed into the user_authenticate function. I'm pretty sure that the problem must be that I'm using Bakery, and that this Commerce site is a slave site. I've created an issue over on the Bakery issue board to try to get some assistance with resolving this problem. I guess this module isn't currently compatible with Bakery? Hopefully we can fix that!
#2362719: Drupal Commerce Checkout Login not working

legolasboYou could give the patch in #2009986: Add capability to require login for existing and new users a go. It is basically a complete rewrite of the module and might solve your problems.

jlea9378 commentedI gave the latest dev release a try with the patch that you mentioned, but it doesn't work.
I had varying experiences during the checkout process when it prompts for the email address in the Account information section:
1st try: Somehow I got logged in without it prompting me for a password. But then I got subsequently logged out and a message was logged that said Bakery - "Logging out the user with the bad cookie."
2nd try: MS Edge provided the suggestion for the email address so I let it auto-fill the field with the form suggestion. Unfortunately this resulted in a message that appeared that said "Please enter an email address" or "You must enter an e-mail address.". Apparently browser auto-fill/form suggestions aren't supported.
3rd try: I manually typed the email address. I was prompted for the password and I typed in the correct password. However, it gave me this message: There is already an account registered to yukilear@paradisent.com. Please enter your password to continue checkout. (which I already did)
4th try: I typed the password again and this time it said: Sorry, unrecognized username or password. Have you forgotten your password?
It looks like the module isn't compatible with Bakery.

legolasboI've been granted commit rights and I am currently rewriting the module for a 2.x branch which will more closely follow Drupal's best practices and will have test coverage. I'm not familiar with bakery (yet), but I am willing to look into bakery support if it is not working out of the box in the 2.x branch.
