BackReference provides similar functionality (though there is no D7 version), but their settings are found on the field settings form. I find this more intuitive than CNR's settings, which are on a separate page showing all possible associations, which can quickly become overwhelming.
I propose that the settings be moved to the field settings form. As a reference, attached is a screenshot of how BackReference (D6) looks.

Matthew Davidson CreditAttribution: Matthew Davidson commentedFor that matter, CNR's settings should be integrated with the D7 Field API(s), so that for example field_info_instance() will return information on corresponding node references. This would (I expect, though I am far from knowledgeable in this area yet) also aid autodiscovery of dependencies when/if CNR settings are exportable by CTools/Features.
