hello

lots of modules are implementing this kind of feature. the best of them, so far, seems to be Improved Admin and Administration Menu (admin views in 3.x)
please consider joining efforts (ask to be co-maintainer) and deprecating this module in favor of Improved Admin

It looks like a useful module, but, believe it or not, I actually have sites without Views at all. That may or may not continue when I convert them to D7, but I doubt I am the only person in the world who has developed sites without using Views.

7000+ modules using this indeed is a lot of sites, but with current usage of Views i wouldn't count on more than 20% of those 7000+ not using it ;)

Perhaps the thing to do is to tell D7 users to use that module and let this one die with D6?

i'm considering submitting patches to Improved Admin soon (after reviewing well the code) and maybe asking for co-maintainship if i get some free time

Are you sure we can't save this module. It did one thing simply and beautifully, ootb, and it just worked. I'm glad to help where I can, but it would be a pity to see this die with version 6.

Except improved admin hasn't seen any changes in over a year. And had not seen an update in 8months when you posted.

This module has 8000+ and the other 300+....

admin views was released. it has a little bug where the permissions and roles tab disapear on /admin/people, but other than that seems to work just fine in D7

Big +1 for having both an alternative to Views for D7, but also to continue the beloved CMF, which is a wonderful little thing :-)

I don't see where Workbench is a good alternative for this module. The reason I was following it was because on sites without Workbench, finding specific content is a bit of a pain. Workbench is also like swatting a fly with a hammer if there a site only has 1 or 2 people administering content. I just wanted an easier way to find content.....I don't necessarily need revisions and all that.

I would also say that if this module has a lot more sites using it, then maybe Improved admin should consider merging with you. :)

Admin Views has reached a stable D7 version!

seems to be the latest, most up to date and maintained module, with the biggest feature set

it uses Views and VBO, and has a D6 (alpha) and D7 (stable) branch.
it's bundled with basic views that imitate drupal core interface, but can be easily adapted to each scenario.

from what i've tested and compared in the D7, it's now the top solution

nancy, are you still considering making a D7 version, as an alternative "light" module to Views + VBO + Admin Views?

i must say, it's getting more and more pointless to support "lighter" modules, as Views is scheduled for inclusion in D8 core.

Yes, I have done some work on porting it. I don't know that I would really consider it a lighter alternative, just one that seems to be popular.
