The plan for Drupal 8 is to split the module in multiple parts

- base module will add data- attributes to form elements
- a new sub module will add the javascript code
- all validators are converted to plugins

D8 version is pretty stable by now (rc1, pretty close to rc2 would be my guess, maybe even just a stable release).
