Version 8.x-2.x is a complete re-write of the module in order to make use of the many improvements in Drupal 8.

The core module is basically ported over and functional. Next I will start to work on the various sub-modules.

Currently there is no plan to create a migration from 7 to 8, but I might look at it a bit later.

Here are a couple of changes that are implemented and why I decided to call it 2.x:

  • Link configurations are now saved as a configuration entities instead of in a custom DB table. This also make the support for the 'Features' module obsolete.
  • The destination parameter can't be configured anymore as it is appended by default via the core contextual module.
  • Contextual links are now heavily front-end cached by Drupal. This will might make the use of certain tokens difficult. Still looking for an elegant way to invalidate window.sessionStorage for all site visitors when a custom link is created/updated/deleted.

Any update on this?

I am assuming it doesn't yet work for D8/D9. I tried adding a link to Layout Builder to node links. /node/[node:nid]/layout to all node types. The admin UI seems to work fine; but nothing adding to the existing CL (the one on the node page which shows edit/translate/delete.

FWIW, my old CCL links still appear on the menus, but I just created a new one, cleared cache, but they are still not appearing.
