The problem described in #851184: Country code selection not retained seems to have recurred in 7.x-1.x-dev - the country code resets to the default value whenever a node is edited.

On a related note - why does there need to be a default value? I'm working with an international database in which one country is no more likely to be used than any other. Can there not be a "PLEASE SELECT" value at the top of the list, to be used as a default?
