First Day of Month showing count of entire month

Issue: a month view set up which uses multiple date fields, it uses the default $count and displays the total number of nodes related to that day. It works for all days except the 1st of each month which the count number includes all items for the entire month.

The 1st of the month should behave like the rest of the calendar days.
