I'm not sure that I want to spend much time on troubleshooting, however I just downloaded the latest (v6) Drupal a couple of days back, and spent quite a bit of time setting it up. Nothing to elaborate, but pretty close to useable. I downloaded and installed the black_mamba theme, clicked on enable and set to default and POOF! 500 Internal Server Error.
I ended up having to restore my database back to a point before I downloaded it, but a lot of pain and suffering for the effort.
