Thanks for bringing BOTCHA to my attention - I hadn't come across it before.
I'm a bit hesitant about the proposed merge; I'm planning to re-structure Badbot fairly heavily in the near future, basing its core on the Devtools framework, and that wouldn't tie into the BOTCHA design pattern. Additionally, BOTCHA seems a bit 'heavy' on the dependency/code side of things. I'm not sure a single, large anti-spam module is a good idea. The different modules currently available all take different approaches to blocking spam, and individual sites may benefit from some and not from others.
I think a pluggable SpamAPI (as suggested here), with separate child modules for individual anti-spam techniques would be the best thing going forward. Maybe we can look into developing that for D8?
