The weighting system for sorting some items like menus and taxonomy terms is completely arbitrary when often the items in these lists are not.
For example, assigning section and subsection numbers to taxonomy terms as fields gives the terms an inherent order, but they are sorted alphabetically by default. There is no way to change the weights of the terms to mimic their inherent value...until now!
Auto weight allows you to use tokens to define a pattern that will be translated into an integer value to replace the weight value of a series of items such as taxonomy terms and menu items.
