Updating this issue after more testing. I can't get the tag to insert using various configurations of ckeditor and asset module. The code inserts directly or at least ckeditor is rendering the code and inserting it instead of the tag.

Currently trying Asset 7.x-1.0-beta4+4-dev and CKEditor 7.x-1.15+1-dev.

I noticed in the demo when viewing the source in the CKEditor you can see the tag. On my setup when viewing the source I see the rendered code, not the tag. So the text input filter to convert tags is not even necessary.
