APEX Healthcare is a healthcare-oriented subtheme for hospitals, clinics, practices, health networks, and patient-information sites using the APEX design system.

It combines a calm teal-and-amber visual foundation with five Single Directory Components for providers, service discovery, locations, accepted insurance, and appointment choices.

Patient-task presentation

The design uses a Source Sans-oriented humanist stack, clear weight-based hierarchy, scannable directory spacing, and a 65-character measure for health information. APEX Theme provides the 28-region page structure and module-powered controls beneath the subtheme.

The source declares font-family fallbacks but does not bundle fonts. Load only approved assets and account for licensing, user privacy, caching, and performance.

Five Healthcare components

  • Provider card: featured, grid, and compact presentations with portrait, credentials, specialties, languages spoken, primary location, accepting-patients status, virtual-visit indicator, and booking destination.
  • Service finder: a task-oriented search presentation with popular specialties and an emergency notice area.
  • Location card: address, phone, current-day hours, map preview, emergency or urgent-care badges, and directions destination.
  • Insurance list: accepted plans grouped in native details elements, with verification guidance and a last-updated timestamp.
  • Appointment widget: appointment type, supplied virtual and in-person availability slots, online booking destination, and phone alternative.

These components display information from the site; they do not search clinical systems, verify insurance, expose real-time scheduling, book appointments, transmit protected health information, provide medical advice, or confirm emergency availability.

Current installation scope

The package has three base stylesheets, two page wrappers, one settings override, eight optional chrome block placements, five SDCs, and all 28 parent regions. Its wrappers add Healthcare-specific CSS classes and include the parent page template.

The planned provider, service, and location landing templates and demo content are not present. The component set is not wired to Drupal entities or external healthcare systems, and the front-page template does not automatically place components.

Healthcare implementation guidance

  1. Assign authoritative owners and update schedules for providers, credentials, services, locations, hours, insurance, and availability.
  2. Connect search, mapping, scheduling, and patient-portal destinations through reviewed integrations.
  3. Do not place protected health information in public component props, logs, analytics, or caches.
  4. Present emergency instructions that match the organization's approved clinical and legal policy.
  5. Label whether availability and insurance information is live, delayed, or informational.
  6. Configure privacy controls, consent, metadata, canonical URLs, redirects, sitemaps, and suitable structured data separately.

Requirements and installation

  • Drupal 11.3 or later within Drupal 11
  • PHP 8.3 or later
  • APEX Theme and its declared module stack
composer require 'drupal/apex_healthcare:^1.0'
drush theme:enable apex_healthcare
drush config:set system.theme default apex_healthcare -y
drush cr

Accessibility, safety, and search quality

The styles contain reduced-motion, contrast, forced-colors, and print accommodations. Real conformance requires testing navigation, search, forms, focus, errors, zoom, reflow, image alternatives, plain language, language changes, and assistive-technology output with representative patients.

A healthcare visual design does not establish HIPAA or other regulatory compliance, clinical safety, accessibility conformance, or data accuracy. Apply the legal, security, privacy, clinical, and accessibility review required by the organization and jurisdiction.

Search visibility depends on accurate provider and service information, stable URLs, descriptive titles and links, original patient-centered content, metadata, internal navigation, structured data, and measured page performance. Never use the component set to imply unverified credentials, insurance acceptance, outcomes, or availability.

Support and maintainer

Report reproducible defects on Drupal.org with the affected component, supplied props, active APEX versions, Drupal/PHP versions, browser, breakpoint, and steps. Remove patient data and credentials from reports.
