Amazon product images are not showing up

Amazon products images are not showing up. Using version 7.x-2.x-dev (& 1.x) release of this module produces the following message: Error accessing Amazon AWS web service with query '[URL query here]'. HTTP result code=0, error=php_network_getaddresses: getaddrinfo failed: Name or service not known

Is this occurring b/c of SSL certificates? During my testing, I found that this work fine on my local machine (where my site does not have a SSL) and then on PROD I get the following error.
