Search API Solr 8.x-2.x will be in sync with the Solr project. According to http://lucene.apache.org/solr/community.html Search API Solr follows their supported versions:

  • 7.x Current major version for feature releases (STABLE)
  • 6.4.x Version in the previous major release for bugfixes only (LTS)
  • 8.0 Next major version, yet to be released (UNSTABLE)
  • <6.4 All older versions are End Of Life (EOL)

I recommend that Acquia as a hoster focuses on the 6.4.x version which is declared to be a LTS version.

This should be of highest priority IMO considering acquia is using 4.5

Can any of the module maintainers comment on when support for a new version of Solr will be available w/ Acquia Search and this module? I'm very concerned that Acquia Search is using a version that is no longer receiving bug/security fixes.

As an Acquian I can state that we are certainly aware of this and have a plan; for starters, customers will receive proactive notifications about this.

Leaving open for any followups.

Thanks for the feedback. Acquia has recently released Acquia Search Solr, a new and completely standalone module, that's compatible with newer Solr versions. I think that will solve this issue. If not, further discussion should probably be around that module.
