You fixed the z-index issue in no time.

Would it be possible to use the views slideshow module (I know it's not quite ready for D7 yet) to control the slideshow?
That coupled with the color module and your beautiful theme will be everywhere in various incarnations.
P.S. My wife loves this theme.

Yes that is possible, but for deploy it with the theme it could become a problems for some user (need Views, Views Slideshow). Maybe write a documentation to create that is the best solutions.
