I believe there has been a mistake with the last stable release:
http://drupal.org/node/398732/release (media_brightcove 6.x-1.0-beta5, September 2, 2010 at 12:39am)

Beta 4 is still being listed as recommended, even though its older:
http://drupal.org/node/853162 (media_brightcove 6.x-1.1-beta4, July 13, 2010 at 10:36pm)

I'm assuming this is because of "1.1 > 1.0", which means the project release system considers "6.x-1.0-beta-5" > "6.x-1.1-beta4". Or am I wrong? In any case, it seems everyone (including me) has been downloading the older release. So, maybe you need to make a new release "6.x-1.0-beta-5"?

PS: I just stumbled on this issue queue because of getting this error on my drupal status report-page:

Embedded Media Field Missing providers
The following third party media providers found in existing media fields are currently missing from the system: brightcove3. You must install the corresponding modules supporting the provider(s) to support them. See the Embedded Media Field module page for a listing of available modules.
You may be able to locate the missing provider(s) at one or more of the following project pages. Note that these are educated guesses, and may actually not be an existing Drupal project:
brightcove3
Finally, you might be able to locate the missing provider(s) at one of the Media: Flotsam project pages, such as Media: Video Flotsam, Media: Image Flotsam, or Media: Audio Flotsam. Note that these three are placeholder projects, seriously in need of proper homes. Please contribute if you are able!

Site and mediafields seem to work properly though. In any case, I guess I need to update to beta-5 like this "drush dl 6.x-1.0-beta-5".

..and with "So, maybe you need to make a new release "6.x-1.0-beta-5"?" I naturally mean "6.x-1.1-beta-5" :)

I set this as critical, as I believe everyone downloading the outdated version is kinda critical (especially if updating emfield to 2.2 with the old version of this module results in that error).

Wow, thanks! Looks like I'd started on the wrong 6-1-1 branch some time ago, and am stuck with it now... Thanks for the catch. Fixed now...
