Where do I post questions relating to this forum ?
My question is why auth users can edit or delete their own comments but not their forum posts? Sometimes I still find typos in my posts to this forum after previewing and submitting them. :)

d'oh
in the forum development >> drupal.org infrastructure
although in the dropdown list it is listed as a child of the "support forum".
becauase edit and delete
becauase edit and delete functions are tied together, i have not checked 5.0 to see if this is still true. (will find out shortly as im uploading the beta of 5.0 now)
thus if users are granted the ability to edit/delete their posts then they can delete content that was added to your site, that you may not want deleted especially if its already been spidered by search engines. Deletion of content would mean lots of links leading nowhere. I've seen this kind of self multilation often. In the end you the site admin pay for it.
EDIT:
just installed and took a look at drupal 5.0 beta. you will be happy to know this issue is resolved on a few levels!
