Initially I had a field set up so "The user must enter a value" and a make it "Visible in the user registration form." Now I want to turn this settings off. I uncheck the box and when I click save, the page reloads the same field settings page without my changes.

Why is this happening? Is there a way to fix this? I attached a image showing the fields I am referring to.

Turns out it was caused by this module: http://drupal.org/project/profile_pictures. Turn off this module, do whatever changes you want to do, then turn it back on and it all works fine.
