Drupal 4.7.3
Category module

I think I can wrap my brain around the whole container and category concept, except one part that leaves me a bit baffled.

Here’s my understanding -- Containers hold stuff, categories allow you to index it.

But, I just can’t come up with a real life example, when a video, audio, forum, event, image or custom cck node would want to be a category, instead of a container … or even a bit more confusing a container and a category.

I’m sure this is an important concept to grasp. Ass no one would have built this intense ability into the module. You noticed I didn’t use books, page or story for my examples. Because I kind of see all of these as being the same now, containers.

Also, there are a few things I learned today as I did my first convert.

When setting the depth, I used -1 --- so it would do everything I had. I think next time, I will use a 1. Using a -1, could really clog up the Menu or Blocks. I will setup sub-categories at level one, if need be and just go the far in the future.

The conversion process was beautiful and perfect .. gosh darn Agg2 converted over as well. Agg2 can be a bit touchy, but now it’s even more useful and easier to display with.

Thanks again

if you're going to take that the leap into category, then the above link is very useful and the best place top start. You're going to chew up some brain cells and I would highly recommend a test site to play with - newbie or not.

I'll post shorthand Tips, as I learn them

1) Content can be assigned to categories, but it cannot be assigned to a container.
