Hello,

I'm trying (this summer) to develope a web application that can hold a system of keeping local leisure activities (theater, gigs, exhibitions,...) up-to-date. This is an idea that I had for some years, and I even used to keep alive the web version of the local activities zine. That was years ago when I hadn't even heard of server programming (read php + mysql).

I know, more or less, the way it should work. There'll be an admin (myself in the beginning, for my hometown) who will entittle the diferent venues (cinemas, youth organitations, festivals,...) representants to be users of the system and, therefore, be able to post their own activities program.

Then, in order to apply some 'general sense', categorize and rank the activites, and verify their validity, visitors will be able to vote for the news and/ or the people who send them.

The idea is to keep it working with as little administration work as possible. So, on one hand the venue representants woul be interested in advertising their activities for free (this will take some promotion time), and on the other hand the visitors will moderate this activities, (hopefully) bringing the most important ones to the home page and finding out the 'fake ones', if any, helping the admin to know if should delete any user at a point.

Coming to DRUPAL. I've recently got in touch with Drupal. Before that I was thinking of developing the system I explained above from scratch (well, making use of as much open source scripts as I could) using PHP and mySQL on the server side (valid XHTML, CSS and javascript on the client side). Now I wonder if I could take Drupal as a base, and tweak any modules and even make up any new one I should know.

This question of mine would be preferebly addressed to Drupal experts, but I'm sure more people can help. Have any suggestions about the way I should take? Should I post this topic somewhere else within this forum or even somewhere else?

Thanx for your patience,
hip

I just got into Drupal
