Once you active the theme, you may not switch back to other themes. It's anonying.

You have to remove the element theme registery from the system table of your database. And remove all the element theme folder.

I gave up.

Hmmm, this has never happened to me. Can you please give me a list of your enabled modules, maybe there's a conflict with something. You can build and save a quick one using : http://drupal.org/project/sitedoc
