I gave up on the upgrade, saved the mysql database that wasn't working, and installed 4.7. So now, 4.7 is running. Is there any possibility of me being able to drop the new (more or less empty) db, and importing my back up? At least they have the same number of tables. Even if they only need small fixes, I'll probably need help implementing them. This is a matter of over 2000 nodes...I really can't even think of redoing it all without needing to go into the hospital. help?

Old?
Why it is old and do not work? After an upgrade of Drupal code to a new version you have to update "old" database to become compatible with new code by running update.php as superuser(uid=1). If it does not work then this is another question, answer depends on details, error messages...
well, I don't have anything
well, I don't have anything to lose at this point, no content up...
If upgrade failed
Try to export tables from old database with "mysqldump" and import into new with "mysql".
Too many changes
I tried : (
Pages and pages of errors.
I went back to the new build with the new db, even though we lost some features and the content is going to be a monster to rebuild:(
