Hi,

As far as I see, the use case where the old password is only needed when the password is changed is not supported.
This is a current requirement that I have.

Someone started this functionality, are there plans or know problems for doing this, can you let me know.

Is the current password required for anything other than changing the password at the moment?

It works just like the core D7 functionality: it's required when editing on your own account page.

would need a radio option in the configuration page.
* ask current password only for password changes
* ask current password for any profile edition

+1! This feature would be great especially when the user wants to only change his/her profile information and the user has signed up or logged in using other authentication methods (e.g. facebook, twitter, yahoo, live, etc).
