Is there a way to scale down the map (or set scale) in teaser mode? many times map content gets trimmed if in teaser

Look through the source code of the module—it is very small. The very last function is a theme function that outputs the map and controls the size. Overwrite this in your theme. Consult the Theming Guide for help on overwriting theme functions.
