While I was doing a backup on the database (of a website that has 3 nodes, 1 user and about 5 installed modules), I realized that the database size was huge.

It was at 1.8 MB. Before I ran cron job and clear cache, it was 5 MB.

Is that normal? Because most of the database consists of words from "cache" and "cache_form" tables.

('theme_registry:garland', 0x613a3233393a7b733a32343a22626 c6f636b5f61646d696e5f646973706c61795f666f726d223b613a38 3a7b733a383a2274656d706 c617465223b733a33383a22 6d6f64756c65732f626c6f636b2f626c6f636b2d61646 ..... 3a303a7b7d7d7d, 1268827391, 1268823791, NULL, 1);

The cache is sort of like this but x1000000 times longer.

Any confirmation would be awesome.

I'm not sure if this is related, but my database for a site with 10 nodes and 3 users is almost 250mb.
The biggest tables are search_index (2,867,017 entries, 177.1 MB) and search_dataset (5,882 entries, 55.9 MB).

Is it normal they are so big?
