Two login blocks with different styles

Is there a way to have two different versions of the login block with different styles? I want the login block themed one way for the front page, and a second way for the rest of the pages. I've had no problem with styling the login block in general, using user-login-block.tpl.php and altering the css depending on the location. But what about when CSS is not enough?

If I could maybe duplicate the system block for login I could do it by telling drupal to load a second tpl.php file in template.php. But I can't find any information on doing this. Any other suggestions or pointers?
