Hey guys, I seem to have inherited a drupal 4.5.x system and I'm going to make a new skin for it but out of curtousy I'd like to upgrade their system to the new 4.7.2.

I went through the upgrade procedure directly to 4.7.2 and no cigar.

I get all the way to running update.php and it just sits there at a blank white page. I did go in and change the $access_check = FALSE;

After this failed miserly I went and restored the backup. I'm more than willing to try again, just not sure why this won't work. I know there's a crap ton of modules from all different walks of life on this system, I could get a list of those if you wanted but judging from the upgrade instructions it doesn't seem like modules would effect the update.php part of it causing it to fail.

Anyone have any ideas? Do I have to upgrade step by step from 4.5 to 4.6 then to 4.7?

For a complex site even a 4.5 -> 4.6 is not trivial and might require hand adjustment.

For 4.6 -> 4.7 expect to sweat.
