I created a patch against drupal-4.4.0-rc which adds a new system setting to enable/disable logging of cron watchdog entries. It was constantly driving me nuts to have my watchdog logs filling up with cron entries since I run cron.php rather frequently. I'm not sure if the patch will get picked up and added to the 4.4.0-rc codebase, so this is just a note to let everyone know, if you are interested in the patch.
