My site relies heavily on the aggregator2 module for 2.6 to parse feeds and create a node for every feed item.

It seems the development of aggregator2 is dead.

I know the aggregator module was developped in 4.7, does it have all the aggregator2 functions?

Aggregator is very limited. Simply imports all feed items into a node. Aggregator2 is very buggy.
