I'd like to be able to limit the number of images a user can upload to 12, but increase the number if the user pays the site, is this possible?
Also about member lists. I've used both the members and profile pages modules and neither has what I want.
I want a list of things like, location, skills (photographer, publisher etc) and let a user click through members like that, but also have an 'all' section. Anything to help me? Or do I have to create a page and link to all the variables manually!?

Usergroup based image count permissions.
quick one..
the profile module allows you to do that automatically.
as an example click through to my profile page and click on IRELAND. that will automatically *only* list Drupallers registered as being from Ireland
To do that on your site for something like PROFESSION:
profile_profession
No when someone is viewing a profile, the users PROFESSION is a link and when you click on that link Drupal will list ALL the users with the same profession.
In the same way as Drupal.org lists everyone from the Island of Ireland.
I don't know a way to do that off the top of my head...but here's an optional approach:
Hope that makes sense..it's not exactly what you wanted, but, seeing nobody else answered, thought it worth mentioning.
Please also note that all of the above is do able using Drupal out-of-the-box. there are a lot of new modules related to image galleries etc. Such as the ACIDFREE.MODULE, the GALLERY2.MODULE etc.
Worth checking those modules to see if they have more granular option on gallery management etc.
Hope that helps. please reoprt back up here if you get a chance, what you're talking about is essentially a flickr type setup...and would be of interest to many others.

EDITED: Correction, you can't add an image field to a profile, using Drupal out-of-the-box. You need to tweak the profile.module for that. I remember seeing a patch for that somewhere. Will try and dig it out for you.

I've read and I've read and I've read and I have no clue as to how to implement them!
Thank you so much for all your help, I knew about the click on location name function, but what I wanted was a page listing all the locations and other fields, so a user could click on that and view all the users in that area.
The site is for professional photographers wanting to get in contact with the creative industries, http://looksy.co.uk if your interested.
quick one..
I see what you mean...sort of like a single page listing all the FREEFORM LISTS that has links to each one..?
What version of Drupal are you using?

try this
The following snippet loads up all the PROFESSION freeform list entries from profiles, converts them to links and displays them in a page:
before u use this snippet...you need to check a few things..i.e.
Your freeform list form name = profile_profession
Your freeform list page title = profile_profession
The field Id = 3 (you can check this simply by going to ADMINISTER -> SETTINGS -> PROFILES and hovering your mouse over the EDIT link for your Profession field link, in your status bar you'll see the field ID at the very end of the link)
in other words, you need to change the bit that says
fid = 3
in the snippet to what your PROFESSION field ID is....that will output something like this (probably better for a block than a node, but, if you have a lot of freeform lists in your profiles it might work in a node)
Professions
Lawyer (56)
Programmer (11)
Photographer (22)
Painter (16)
Musician (5)
Taxi Driver (12)
Where the number is the number of people with that profession...
to implement.
fid = 3
bit to the correct field idAlternatively (it might look better in a block)
fid = 3
bit to the correct field idJust tested that snippet for Drupal 4.6. Works fine.
