I need to set the order of items that show within a taxonomy term area. I am using taxonomy_menu module with drupal 4.3.2.

When a taxonomy 'term' is clicked I see the items (nodes?) that are associated with that term but they seem to show in most recent order. I want to be able to order them independent of chronological sequence. I would rather not have to put letters or numbers on the items within a term, but is there a way to use the 'weight' system at the level of files/stories/posts within a term?

http://drupal.org/node/view/5738 is a discussion on a node weighting patch that would do what you want. In Drupal right now, though, the only facility you have at your disposal is marking nodes "static", which will move them to the top of the list.

Thank you! Sounds like exactly what I need. I searched on weight and didn't see this at all.

1. Will the node weighting 'patch' work with 4.3.2 and am I dumb to try to stick with the released versions...? [I'm still a bit confused by sorting out drupal 4.3.2, CVS, head, modules, and patches (whew)]

2. I'm assuming I can find how to apply this patch somewhere and will edit this post when I find instructions. If you've got a definitive location would appreciate it.

I don't see clear instructions on how to work with this patch.

There are a lot of clear instructions I don't see which is frustrating. I'd be so happy to contribute to documentation upgrades but the responses in this community are so underwhelming that I can't get to the point of contributing because the understanding for even someone who lives in a tech zone 24x7 is way more complicated than it needs to be. I fear that smart people who could bring a lot to the 'table' will become discouraged and frustrated by the the level lack of experience fitting Drupal to real world oganizations vs. hobby sites, blogs, and start from scratch sites by one person operations.

Searching for information on this site is ironically difficult given this 'backbone' of a 'taxonomy' and the obvious intelligence that goes into modules and development.

I was ready to throw in the towel and post my exit rant a couple of weeks ago. I've hung in here but the clock ticks and the same proportion of users to guests still concerns me on top of the other eccentricities.

I work with databases (albeit on a simple level of using mysql and building simple web interfaces) I've installed numerous phpbb sites and went on to modify and maintain them. I know the level of responsiveness and clarity that can be part of an open source project. I think Drupal is a project I could commit to contributing to heavily in the area of documentation and usability for nonprofits and organizations where it could do some good. Oops, I'm ranting in the wrong 'thread' and will stop here.
