I was posting this topic in a wrong forum, so i repost here hoping will get some help:
I dont know if Drupal is a good choice for portal site, or is it just a news-blog site ?
My site doesnt need many portal functions, what im looking for is : a solution for multi sites hosting with 1 install, the manage/administrator section that we can set and run some pages (to input data), the ability to set the authority for some users (admin can input data, users can only query - select data .. ) thats all.
1- Some people say Drupal got a poor layout-template, is that true ? i did some search on Drupal and saw somewhere that Drupal can be used with a nice template....so im stuck. Can anyone advise if i m be able to use a HTML template like this www.gwonline.net with drupal ?
2- I saw in the handbook that we only be able to set the front page as a node, .. so i suppose that this is a NODE system.
Is it possible for me to code some pages, implement into drupal and they still runs ?
Ex : i will code some PHP pages to query data as well as input data to database so i think it would be a " form input -> validate -> database query"
Is it possible to do in Drupal?
Thx in advance

Yes
Drupal can do what you want.
1. No. You can change the template if you want. There are atleast 3 viable choices. phptemplate is the most popular, but I prefer the smarty template engine (http://drupal.org/project/smarty). The only limitation on how you make the site look is your skill and budget (time). See this thread talks about an impressive example: http://drupal.org/node/52042
2. You can insert php code into a node. Or you can create a module depending on what you need to do. In general, the module is a better bet because drupal does more of the work for you.

Nice
i''ll start with Drupal then, thx you WHITEPAPERDESIGNS.com :)
Do we need the hosting provider to support smarty ? i hear its on by default.
(prefer smarty cause i have many document about it ) ? But i also found the intrucstion that we dont need to set anything with system files.
Smarty is just a php
Smarty is just a php library. You may have to download the latest libraries seperate from the smarty theme engine.
There should be nothing to turn on. You do have to check the permissions on your directories, but that is in the install instructions.
