teasers with restricted access

Is it possible to restrict access to types of content through taxonomy_access but still allow an anonymous user to view the teasers? We're considering implementing Drupal for a site where some content is only available to members but we want to allow casual visitors to see what kind of content is available to them should they register. Is there another module or way of doing this? What I'm getting at the moment (There are currently no posts in this category) is not really very helpful.
Or is Drupal not up to this job?
