@podarok: I've seen you've been contributing to http://drupaler.ru/translate/languages/uk too. That group should be migrated to localize.drupal.org and turned off / removed on drupaler.ru so we have a canonical source.

Why is adding this group critical?

zarudnyi’s picture

@Gábor, I do not understand why You are asking about the importance of this group? What prompted your question? Be kind to explain.
At the moment, only in our company, about 8 people are systematically working on translating Drupal into the Ukrainian language. So we really need a system that will facilitate our efforts. We work hard, and we are losing a lot of time, namely, it is important when we talk about the criticality.
Thanks :)

Gábor Hojtsy’s picture

As said above, Podarok already found the drupaler.ru site where he contributed his translations. We need to have a clear picture of previous contributions. For example, I'd say that those who contributed to the drupaler.ru Ukranian translation did not do less of an important work then you did. (But I cannot tell the quality of their work). Throwing that away would be disrespectful of their work. Also, marking your team critical, while 20+ teams are waiting to be created looks like putting you in front of them, which I'm not getting at all.

Let's discuss how the previous contributions will be integrated and how can this group become the definite source for translations.

drupaler.ru - dead project for ukrainian language from 4.x drupal century
I just export there a few strings from past version of Ukrainian translation, but with no activity - no life, so I do not think that we need to stop developing Ukrainian version with it...

All the work with translation into Ukrainian You can see in my cvs contribution list in my drupal.org user profile and at project space for Ukrainian

About user migration from drupaler.ru - I'll post message to drupaler.ru (if i can remember my password, cause drupal user can't login there anymore after "redesign"), and all copyrights (mostly in 4.x drupal version) already protected

SO, please, add Ukrainian into L.D.O

I am marking this report as postponed until somebody from the translation server doesn't reply here.

podarok’s picture

from which translation server?

apaderno’s picture

Which translation server did the previous comments make reference to?

podarok’s picture

from drupaler.ru?
heh. project is dead, so we have to wait next Jesus for reply?

podarok’s picture

BTW, i`m admin of the Ukrainian translation group at drupaler.ru

Gerhard Killesreiter’s picture

@podarok: The point that we are trying to make is that we want to have one source per language in order to minimize confusion. That means that any external source has to be closed after the creation of the group at localize.d.o. Since you are the admin of the other group, you should be able to close it after the import to l.d.o was done, is that correct?

podarok’s picture

I am admin of the group but not the owner of the drupaler.ru

I can just remove all of the members(that do not answer on my messages in any way) from the group but have no any permission to remove all the group

All translations from drupaler.ru already committed by me into cvs.drupal.org many time ago
After that I got the http://drupal.org/project/uk and work around it and CVS with other translators from drupalua Google Group

Gábor Hojtsy’s picture

Our problem with keeping multiple interfaces / databases for storing translations is that we would not like to mislead people to contribute somewhere, where their work would be wasted. Therefore please exercise your relations to drupaler.ru to close down that group please.

Gerhard Killesreiter’s picture

Gabor: If the effort at drupaler.ru is dead anyway and he can't get the people there to remove the group, I think his approach to remove all members and admins should be good enough and we should not let stop this the creation of the new group.

neochief’s picture

I can ask PVasily (maintainer of drupaler.ru) to remove Ukrainian group at all.

So I think, IT MUST BE.
UA Drupalers need to be closer to Drupal.Org Comunity.

It will be really needful to have localized ver.

And I agree that only one branch must be.

And I agree that 4.x is history, so better to forget about it.

And i will wait for request here.... keep me informed....

My vote for the been of the Ukrainian language on this server.

2Gábor Hojtsy

After a long converssation with drupaler.ru owner we have a little trouble...

How to migrate all work from there to L.D.O?
We can export all the work into sql dump for ukrainian and give it to L.D.O admin for importing and after that drupaler.ru uk group will be closed.

So please, tell us what to do?

Gábor Hojtsy’s picture

Currently, we can migrate teams who do not want their suggestions imported. There is not yet an implementation to import/export suggestions due to how they are not compatible with our transport format. See #572676: Export suggestions in .po files.

You can choose as all the teams did before to first approve / decline your suggestions on drupaler.ru. While all teams choose this first option so far, alternatively, you can also consider all those suggestions useless and drop the team/data without importing them to localize.drupal.org or wait until #572676: Export suggestions in .po files / help resolve it.

podarok’s picture

so
soon I`ll get po file from drupaler.ru with all translations from Ukrainian group

Full import of drupaler.ru dump into current HEAD Ukrainian translation
http://drupal.org/cvs?commit=264432

The drupaler.ru group says: 6790 translations recorded and 19745 suggestions awaiting approval. So you've committed 6790 + 19745 =~26000 translations to CVS, or how should I understand this step?

Let me be clear, 19000 suggestions is almost 5 times Drupal core's translation, its a huge amount of work to loose if it had any value. (But I obviously don't have any Ukrainian knowledge to tell whether it had any value).

podarok’s picture

2Gabor
All suggestions(19745) - were approved at the uk group freeze time at drupaler.ru. All of the suggestions - mostly duplicates(If You dont beleive me - can send all the dumps for the check)

From all of the drupaler.ru uk strings I`ve stored ~130 into own global current Ukrainian translation file(11726/17449 (67.2%) translated)(that includes all of the strings from all possible modules from drupal.org that ever been translated into Ukrainian), so all the time for getting full SQL dump and converting it into po file as for me - lost time, cause during that 3 days I was able to translate much more strings than 130...

PS. Just imagine
- translators asking me, "Andriy, please, send me a file for translation"(cvs work for 99,99999% peoples is like "hell vacation")
- I am looking for export from my personal mega-install at localhost some file and send him a letter with it
- after receiving translation - checking it by my own hands and eyes for standardization, spelling errors, importing it into my install and after that - can commit it into cvs.drupal.org (not only core, but a "few" modules from my profile)

Why not drupaler.ru?
Cause for many Ukrainians "ru" domain is maybe like *.us for Saddam Hussein or any... But not for me.
So I have to do a lot of work and have no time to install drupaler.notru website for

PPS. Yes, I know, after creation UK group at L.D.O it is possible to get only one "active" translator in it(try to guess who), but with that group I can make some ads about status, not just my words, and may be a few translators take a part in that...

But nevermind, keep slowly 8)))

Where you saw those "many"?
Never hear from the friends anything bad about our big neighborhood or it's domains, only in media which are just their business.

Myself from Ukraine and interested to see native language supported by native team or community, but not for reason of national confrontation caused by media and politicians.

Good luck!

Thanks for taking the effort to clean up and integrate the translations and suggestions. As I told above, we obviously have no way to tell how many of tens of thousands of translations or suggestions are good. That it was only 130 translations is not good news, so I'm sorry for making you work on that, but we could not figure out otherwise. Let's hope you get better quality ratio in the contributions on the central server.

Created team at http://localize.drupal.org/languages/uk

Please expect that there might be bumps in the service. You are among the beta-tester of this live instance. Thanks for helping out and please report issues as you find them! Your team members can now join and help import existing translations and work on more translations.

Also note that I've set this up so that it uses a controlled model (that group admins moderate translations). If you'd rather work in an open model (that everyone can directly submit translations), that is up to you and you can edit your group node to reconfigure anytime.

Consequently, I've also removed the team's listing from the standalone servers at http://drupal.org/project/l10n_server (where it was listed under drupaler.ru).

Welcome on board!
