Okay, I'm brand new to Drupal, but I've heard good things. The main thing I want to know is whether Drupal works well handling multiple sites (i.e., multiple domains) from one location.

Here's what I'm wanting to do:

I'm planning to set up a group of websites that all share the same games and fun stuff, but which have additional content that is unique to each site. So, for example, ZanyLand.com would be run by me, and would have games, Flash cartoons, jokes, funny photos, and a blog and some other stuff that reflects my personality; whereas GopherGas.com would be run by my wife, and would have those same games, Flash cartoons, jokes, funny photos, and her own personal blog and custom pages.

Based on what I've seen thus far, Drupal would be able to accommodate me. Is that correct?

Oh, and would it allow me to "lock" those shared pages so that my other users could have them on their websites but would not be able to alter them?

(Oh, and one other thing, I do have a dedicated server through ThePlanet.com -- so I think I'm in good shape on that front.)

Thanks in advance.

From what I understand is that you are wanting to share content between sites.

Most of the things you describe here the games, cartoons etc will all just content that is loading into a drupal page node type.

Drupal can just about do this, Drupal will handle the multiple sites without any difficulty, but from what you are saying is that you only want to use a single source for all the content. If this is so you will need to develop a new node access module which will restrict which sites the content will display on and you would set the default to only display on the current site.

This would work well for you, but it would need to be developed. I don't think it will be a complex module esp. if it is coupled with the na_abitrator module.

I'm pretty proficient at html, and I'm comfortable operating within a Vignette-based CMS (and I figure Drupal won't be a whole lot different), but I'm a complete novice when it comes to modules. Is this something that requires a fair amount of experience, or is it fairly basic stuff? I'm a pretty quick learner... but I also want to go ahead and get this stuff up and running before too much longer.

Would I be better off contracting this out?

Also, does anyone have a couple of example links for sites that use drupal to manage multiple domains that share selected content? I'd like to see what other people are doing.

Thanks.
