Question about taxonomies

Hi,

Why doesn’t Drupal have a taxonomy system that allows administrators the option to set how terms are displayed? I think I would be nice if this CMS could show parent-child terms one level at a time without displaying all the other parent-child terms also. Meaning, if someone clicks on the utmost generic term for example, “Electronics,” he will get all (and only) of its immediate proceeding child terms like types of electronics and when he clicks on that term, he will only get makes, then models, etc. I could be mistaken; but does something like this example have to be custom-made? Thanks.
