Hi there,

I've done some investigating on my site as to why quite a high number of non-validated accounts registered with Hotmail. The first things that comes to mind is spam, I know, but taking a closer look lead me to see that when a user registers for an account, the validate link they need to click is cut off when using hotmail. See the attached image, I've tested multiple times, and after speaking to other users at my site, they have encountered it too.

My concern is that when a user clicks the link, they believe that they have validated their account and proceed to delete the email. This is because when they click the link, they are told they cannot use the validation link more than once and prompted to sign in, which they can do - but only in their pre-authorised role, not as an authenticated user. Hotmail does include the link at the bottom of the mail but for most users this isn't required as they think the two links are identical.

I know this is a hotmail issue but is there any way to overcome it using this module, maybe an option to shorten the validation link as that's what's causing the issue as far as I can see?

Would love to hear other peoples comments about this?

Regards

Matt

Ps fantastic module!!

this isn't making any sense to me. even though the display of the link is abbreviated, the actual href param for the link should still be for the full link. if it isn't then you need to write to the hotmail folks and have them fix it.

in any case, this isn't really a problem with the module.

I am also facing this issue both when sending out the email confirmation and also when someone requests the password be reset.

You're correct, this is essentially Hotmail's problem and not yours. But it is going to be close to impossible to get Hotmail to clear this bug.

Would it be possible to send out the link as . If you're already doing that would it be possible to reduce the length of this URL so that Hotmail doesn't truncate it?

i'm not really a fan of working around microsoft's shortcomings ;)

if this is also an issue with password reset emails, then LT is *definitely* not the place to be solving things, as that link is provided by drupal core.

honestly, the links aren't that long compared to some of the query-monster links i've seen -- i really think somebody should write the hotmail folks and point out their issue, as i'm sure this affects many other applications as well.
