In fact, the given example of (pound|pounds) should really be ( pound| pounds); certainly nobody wants to see 5pounds or 1pound as the final rendered content.

I highly recommend having the suffix help text modified for new users like myself.

fietserwinCreated a similar issue #1707926: Prefix and suffix on numeric fields do not allow to add spacing for D8. (Thus yes, it is still an issue in 7.x and 8.x)
