Proposition: merge editview's codebase into Views Bulk Operations or make it play nicely with it = be displayed on its pages
So here are the ways I know to bulk edit nodes:
--- editview ---
seems like the top option - http://drupal.org/project/editview = this module
--- views bulk operations ----
you go to the vbo view's settings and click the display style options - there you can enable all actions. Then there is the action "modify cck fields" . On admin/content/node2 you can select several nodes and this action and hit "execute"...
Then using the Code field , not the widget you can execute php code to update the fields inteligently - this however requires programming ...
If you use the widget part of that screen you can change in bulk titles, bodies and CCK-s but giving all of them the same value.
-- phpmyadmin ---
PhpMyadmin has enough features: filter/select rows and mass edit on one page.
The caveat: it is backend editing so if you update a field that runs some drupal hooks/functions/(updates another field or variable in the site) - you won't get them updated via phpmyadmin editing ...
For the node titles and lots of things this is ok.
For the body and teaser I am not sure... Maybe a massive "Save post" via Views Bulk Operations would do the job of syncing teaser with body ... (This has the slight drawback of updating the modified date so if you rely on it for display/ordering you may spoil your list orderings...)

Agileware CreditAttribution: Agileware commentedI'm not sure that merging the two modules will happen as they do two different (although similar in a way) things.
First step before thinking about merging would be to try to get the two modules to work along side each other. If that can't happen for some reason we can then look at other options.
So I'll look into compatibility with views_bulk_operations.
