Hi,
My programmer just stumbled on this issue while uploading my new, in Drupal, developed site.
Now I am in the lucky position that my hosting account will have to be renewed shortly (in january so I am a little bit in a hurry) so I could switch easily.
Who can advise me of a host who does grant that permission and which is a bit affordable for me (around $ 8 - 10 dollars a month or so).

Site5 is Excellent
Switched to www.site5.com recently and haven't looked back. Very happy with these folks.
I second that!
They have been nothing but extremely helpful for me! On the site they avertise an average of 25 minutes for a support responce, it's usually about 15 for me.
I can also put in a good word for
site5 -- You also might want to check out this thread: http://drupal.org/node/9169
It's a little old, but it gives some good info about what to look for.
Cheers,
Bill

I've been very happy with http://www.opensourcehost.com/. They also host http://www.opensourcecms.com/, the cms rating site (and you get a discount if you sign up via a link from the rating site). They also allow you to choose a project and they will donate a percent of your fee to that project.
