Hi

I need to display certain bits of info on my home page, for example, I want a catagory where I enter a one line teaser for a competition and I want that line displayed in a certain place on my home page, I want to display the 5 latest news articles and the 5 latest blog entries displaying their title only. I would also like the welcome message on the come page to be from the "welcome" catagory so that I can update or change it any time.

Please could someone point me on the right track to get his working. I'm not so good at php but if you point me in the right direction I'm sure that I could make sence of it.

sounds like the flexinode module might help you out for the one line competion then get yourself over to

and try packing some snippets into functions that should give you an idea of getting started

Is snippets the way to go to get selective parts to display.

Are there any that you can reccomend to me?

Have a look at the page there's a whole host of them there

I recommend creating a test page and create a few entries for blog and news and see what you can get working experiment with it if you have problems post back some one will sort you out (most of the time :) )
